Here are real GEO examples — generative engine optimisation in action. Type “best GEO expert” into Google right now and the AI answer at the top names one person first: me, and it says why — for documenting GEO experiments, public testing and running optimisation communities. That didn’t happen by luck. In the video below I walk through the examples with real numbers. Here are five of them, the three-move system behind every one, and how to get the same plan for your business.
Key takeaways
- GEO means being the name in the AI answer — Google AI, Gemini, ChatGPT.
- Every example uses the Answer Engine: be the source, be everywhere, be first.
- Pages have been picked up by Google’s AI within days of publishing.

What GEO is
GEO stands for generative engine optimisation. It’s a long name for a simple idea: when someone asks Google’s AI, Gemini or ChatGPT a question, you want your business to be the name in the answer.
Here’s why it matters. Old SEO was about being one of ten blue links — you could rank number seven and still get some clicks. AI answers give a short list, often just one to three names, and a short list has no room for number seven. If you’re named, you get the call. If you’re not, the buyer may never see your website.
5 real GEO examples
| # | GEO example | What happened | Move |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | “best GEO expert” | Google’s AI Overview names me first and says why — and cites several of my pages | Be the source |
| 2 | “best AI SEO community” | The AI Profit Boardroom ranks #1, my free community #2; the article ranked within 3 days | Be first |
| 3 | “best HARO agency” | The AI Overview lists five suppliers and links out to us first; we also rank #1 organically | Be the source |
| 4 | “best Hermes AI SEO expert” | The AI answer recommends me, citing pages across several of my sites | Be everywhere |
| 5 | A new AI-topic site | Zero to 1,300 Google clicks a day, and over 9,600 AI impressions in a single day | All three |

GEO example 1: “best GEO expert”
Google’s AI Overview puts me at the top for that search. But look closer and I’m not named just once — my pages appear several times in the sources the AI used. The AI pulled from several pages, and they all pointed to the same name.
Why? AI doesn’t know who the best expert is. It reads the pages that rank for the question and sums up what they say. If five good pages in the top ten all say the same name, the AI repeats it — like asking five friends for a restaurant tip and all five naming the same place.
GEO example 2: ranking in 3 days
Search “best AI SEO community” and the AI Profit Boardroom ranks number one, with my free community number two, and the AI Overview cites us more than once. The article that ranks went live just three days before I checked. Old SEO advice says you wait six months to rank a new page — this beat that by a long way.
GEO example 3: a normal service business
This one’s outside AI tools: “best HARO agency”. HARO is a way of earning links by giving quotes to journalists. The AI Overview lists five suppliers, and we’re the one it links out to first — and we rank number one organically too. The same approach works for any service business: a dentist, a plumber, an accountant.
GEO example 4 and 5: being everywhere
Ask “who is the best Hermes AI SEO expert?” and the AI recommends me and explains why, citing pages we’ve published across several platforms. One of those sites went from zero to 1,300 Google clicks a day, and on one day it got over 9,600 impressions inside Google’s AI features — and it’s still climbing.
What’s working: publishing across multiple platforms, writing listicles where you name yourself as the best for a topic with the reasons why, and filling every page with your own experience and case studies so AI learns what you’re an expert in.
The Answer Engine: the 3 moves behind every GEO example
| Move | What it means | How we do it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Be the source | AI can only repeat what it reads, so be what it reads | Real case studies and experiments in every page |
| 2. Be everywhere | Several sources saying the same thing | Multiple sites, a community, a subreddit — each with its own angle |
| 3. Be first | The first good page on a new topic wins | Publish within 24 hours of a new tool or trend |
Move 1: be the source
Every page I publish has a real case study inside it — something I actually tested, a result I actually got. AI tools can write about anything, but they can’t write about a test only you ran. When Google’s AI looks for something fresh to quote, your page has something no one else has.
This matters even more now. On 1 October 2026 Google updated its guidance on AI-generated content to say it’s critical to fact-check and review AI content before publishing — including the page text, metadata, structured data and even image alt text — because AI models predict words rather than look up facts. A page built on something real you did solves most of that: the facts come from you, and AI just helps you write it up.
Move 2: be everywhere
We don’t write one page and hope. We publish across several websites, each with a different angle, all pointing to the same answer — which is how we can show up two, three or four times on page one for the same search. We also post on other platforms: our subreddit, r/AISEOInsider, ranks on the first page of Google too. More spots on page one means more sources telling the AI the same thing. And if one site drops in an algorithm update, the others are still there.
Move 3: be first
Look at the AI topics we rank for and you’ll see they’re trending keywords. We aim to publish within 24 hours of something new launching — like ranking for Jev keywords the weekend Jev AI dropped. On a brand-new topic, nobody else has a page yet, so the first good page with a real case study is the one that ranks and gets cited.
What the GEO examples have in common
- Real experience on every page — tests, results, screenshots.
- Answer-first writing — the question answered in the first sentence.
- Several sources pointing to the same name.
- Speed — publishing while topics are fresh.
- Fact-checked content, in line with Google’s October guidance.
The GEO example that flopped
Not everything works, and it’s worth knowing why. The pages that fail usually share the same problems: generic AI-written content with no real experience in it, answers buried below long introductions, a single page with no other sources backing it up, or a topic where we arrived too late and better pages already existed. Avoid those and your odds improve dramatically.
