Here’s a painful truth most people miss about “productivity” tools: If it doesn’t save you time, it’s costing you money.

I’ve seen the hype. OpenAI drops a new tool, the ChatGPT Atlas browser, and suddenly everyone thinks their problems are solved. A browser with an AI agent that can take action for you? Sign me up!

But I’m here to tell you, as someone who builds automation systems for a living, that this first version of ChatGPT Atlas is a productivity killer. It’s slow, it struggles with basic tasks, and it fails where it matters most: speed and reliability.

You need to see the real-world tests to understand why this ChatGPT Atlas agent is not ready for your business.

The ChatGPT Atlas Agent’s Core Problem: Latency

The ChatGPT Atlas browser is built on a powerful idea: an agent that uses your context.

It can remember useful details, use your logged-in accounts, and search your web history to give “smarter responses.”

OpenAI is trying to create a browser that’s a true personal assistant, and they call it ChatGPT Atlas.

But the biggest enemy of any business is latency—the delay between asking for something and getting it done.

In my test of the ChatGPT Atlas agent, latency was the main theme.

Email Drafting: The Time Tax of ChatGPT Atlas

I asked ChatGPT Atlas to draft and send an email about its own features.

The ChatGPT Atlas agent did execute the task: it opened Gmail, composed a good email, and sent it.

But the process was agonizingly slow. I watched it “starting to draft,” “finalizing the email structure,” and “preparing to send.”

The conclusion was instant: I could have written the email myself way faster.

This is the first major red flag for ChatGPT Atlas. If a basic, multi-step task is slower than a human doing it manually, the agent is a negative ROI tool.

In the AI Profit Boardroom, we teach automations that execute in seconds, not minutes. If you want to scale your business, you cannot afford to wait for the ChatGPT Atlas agent.

E-commerce Test: Four Minutes to Find a Fish Bowl with ChatGPT Atlas

I pushed the ChatGPT Atlas agent further, tasking it with “Go to Amazon and buy a fish bowl for me.”

The ChatGPT Atlas agent wisely refused the purchase but began the search process.

The search results were correct. The agent successfully navigated Amazon and found a product.

But the time it took—four minutes—is unacceptable for a tool like ChatGPT Atlas.

It was “really struggling with interacting with websites” and “getting a lot of errors” while operating the ChatGPT Atlas browser.

Imagine paying an assistant to spend four minutes navigating a search page that takes you 10 seconds. You fire that assistant.

The current implementation of the ChatGPT Atlas agent lacks the smooth, instant execution required for daily tasks. It’s too clunky and slow for peak efficiency.

If you want systems that do save you time and drive sales, the strategies we share in the SEO Elite Circle are built on maximum efficiency, something the current ChatGPT Atlas doesn’t deliver.

The Integration Barrier of ChatGPT Atlas

For any new browser to succeed, the transition must be seamless. This is another area where ChatGPT Atlas creates friction.

Manual Extension Setup for ChatGPT Atlas

Unlike competitors like Comet, which automatically integrated my existing extensions, ChatGPT Atlas forces a manual reset.

You have to go to the Chrome Store and install all your extensions again on ChatGPT Atlas.

This is “a little bit annoying.” For a power user with dozens of critical business extensions, this setup time is a massive deterrent from using ChatGPT Atlas.

The time you spend re-setting up your browser is time you are not spending on growing your business.

A productivity tool should instantly integrate into your life, not force a multi-hour reconfiguration, which is the current state of ChatGPT Atlas.

Login Inconsistency with the ChatGPT Atlas Agent

While the ChatGPT Atlas browser can run in “logged in” agent mode, my experience showed it struggling with logged-in sites, such as the initial errors trying to log into Facebook to check ad performance.

The ChatGPT Atlas agent needs stable, consistent access to your accounts to be truly useful. If it can’t maintain connection or navigate a complex login flow, its utility as an agent drops to zero.

The idea of the ChatGPT Atlas agent knowing you and your history is powerful. This allows it to “search your web history” for things you “just can’t find.” But this utility is only as good as the agent’s ability to maintain a consistent, error-free connection within the ChatGPT Atlas environment.

If you want a stable framework for scaling your SEO traffic, our methods in the SEO Elite Circle prioritize rock-solid systems over flashy gimmicks like an inconsistent ChatGPT Atlas.

ChatGPT Atlas Falls Short on Complex Execution

A true AI agent should be able to handle novel, complex tasks. This is where the ChatGPT Atlas agent hit its wall.

The Email Summarization Test: Comet Wins Over ChatGPT Atlas

When comparing the ChatGPT Atlas browser to Comet on summarizing emails, Comet was the clear winner in both speed and depth.

ChatGPT Atlas provided a general summary of recent messages.

Comet, however, looked at the “12 unread emails” and provided a much more in-depth, action-oriented recap.

For a business owner, summarizing unread emails is the core priority. Comet understood this context better than ChatGPT Atlas.

The App Creation Test: ChatGPT Atlas Gets Stuck

I gave the ChatGPT Atlas agent a high-level task: “create an SEO app for me using Bolt.”

The ChatGPT Atlas agent showed intelligence by outlining the requirements: “helps link building, tracks backlinks, analyzes rankings and suggests outreach strategies.”

But it failed on the execution detail: it got stuck in ‘plan mode’ on the no-code platform.

The ChatGPT Atlas agent did not understand that it needed to switch to ‘build mode’ to proceed.

This shows the limitation of the current ChatGPT Atlas model. It can follow a general script, but it struggles with real-time, dynamic problem-solving within complex interfaces.

This is a vital lesson: Always quality control the output of your AI tools.

Never trust the ChatGPT Atlas agent completely, especially when it comes to sensitive tasks or complex, multi-step actions. The AI can get stuck, and without your human oversight, the whole process stops.

The Future of Search: Why ChatGPT Atlas Still Matters

Despite its current flaws, the launch of ChatGPT Atlas is a massive signal to the market.

It is an overt move to replace Google Search.

When you search in the ChatGPT Atlas browser, the query goes directly to an AI-powered result, not to the traditional Google search page.

OpenAI is positioning the ChatGPT Atlas browser to be the new front door to the internet.

For entrepreneurs, this means the rules of traffic are changing:

The existence of ChatGPT Atlas validates the work we do in AI SEO. This is no longer a fringe idea; it is the battlefield for the future of search.

Final Verdict: Use ChatGPT Atlas for Fun, Not for Profit

I want to be clear: I love the vision of the ChatGPT Atlas browser.

But I do not recommend this initial release of ChatGPT Atlas for entrepreneurs looking to save time or scale their business right now.

It is too slow, too unreliable, and creates too much friction. It is a “fun, fun novelty at the minute, a bit of a gimmick.”

For maximum productivity:

  1. Do it yourself.
  2. Hire a human assistant.
  3. Use faster, dedicated AI automation tools (like the ones we build in the AI Profit Boardroom).

Don’t let the promise of effortless productivity distract you from the reality of slow execution with ChatGPT Atlas.
